The Government is making efforts to give continuity to justice reform due to   the performance of this sector.

This statement was made by the Vice Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, His Excellency Adérito Hugo da Costa, in response to the political statement of the KHUNTO bench that emphasizes the need to pay attention to the balance between the legislation and the reality and emphasizes the need to make amendments especially to the Criminal Code.

Regarding the demand that the Government quickly establish the Supreme Court, His Excellency Adérito Hugo da Costa said that the VIII Government has completed a series of legal frameworks in the justice sector to establish the Supreme Court and managed to establish an installation commission under the supervision of the National Parliament in the previous legislature.

Last week, the Government brought a proposed amendment to the judiciary to readjust the package of legislation approved by the previous Government and still in force.

The member of the Government said that until today it has not been possible to establish the Supreme Court because the resources in the justice sector are not sufficient to establish this judicial body.

The proposed amendment to the Judicial Organization Law was approved in Parliament last week to adjust the competence of the President of the Republic so that it can have legal force to resolve the current mandate of the President of the Court of Appeal which will end in April.

Soon there will also be a readjustment of the law for the Public Prosecution for the same situation, because the legislative package approved in the previous legislature in the context of establishing the Supreme Court.

It is recalled that Bill No. 16/VI (2a), second amendment to Law No. 25/2021, of December 2nd – Law on Judicial Organization, which the Government presented to the National Parliament on April 3rd, 2025, was passed with 36 votes in favor, 19 against and 1 abstention.
