Dili, May 6, 2025, – the Vice Minister of Parliamentary Affairs (VMAP), His Excellency Adérito Hugo da Costa, received a visit from the Cuban Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Her Excellency Grisel Alina Aldama Inniss. During this meeting, the working relations between Cuba and Timor-Leste were discussed.
During this visit, the Cuban ambassador to Timor-Leste expressed her appreciation to the Government, through the leadership of the Vice-Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, for the relationship between Cuba and Timor-Leste. “I conveyed my appreciation to the Government, through the leadership of H.E. the Vice-Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and also regarding the cooperation between Cuba and Timor-Leste, particularly in the fields of medicine and art,” stated Ambassador Grisel.
During the courtesy meeting, the Vice Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and the Cuban Ambassador also discussed the Parliamentary Friendship Group between Cuba and Timor-Leste. This group is an initiative that provides an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
This group could have an impact on cooperation in the areas of politics, economics and health, as well as on the training of Timorese in the field of medicine and the placement of Cuban doctors in East Timor to assist the population.
Furthermore, the ambassador urged for the continuation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group between Timor-Leste and Cuba and stated that Cuba also intends to sustain cooperation in the area of literacy. As we all know, Cuba has always demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting Timor-Leste in this field. In the past, Cuba has already collaborated with Timor-Leste on literacy programs.
Finally, the plans to be implemented in the future between Cuba and Timor-Leste were also discussed. END
