The Vice-Minister for Parliamentary Affairs (VMAP Portuguese acronyms), H.E. Aderito da Costa, took part in a meeting led by the Prime Minister, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, of the Timorese Reconciliation Process Working Group, which will take place on April 8, 2025.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide guidance on the policies of the Timorese Reconciliation Working Group. During the meeting, the Reconciliation Working Group team and the Chega National Center (CNC) will present two documents on reconciliation among Timorese to the Prime Minister (PM), Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.
Joaquim Russo Fonseca, the spokesman for the group, said that the two documents he was presenting were a concept for reconciliation among the Timorese. ‘‘These two documents that we are presenting are like a concept note on how to reconcile the Timorese, and the other document is the terms of reference for the reconciliation process, which talks about the technical people who are needed to take part in this process to give room for all Timorese to have peace with each other,’’ said Mr. Joaquim.
According to the history, in the beginning of 2025, CNC established a Working Group for the Process of Reconciliation among Timorese (GT-PRT), and this reconciliation is as a Process and mechanism that is established to facilitate the Process of Timorese Reconciliation which is enshrined in an objective to support reconciliation and reintegration of people into their communities related to political differences in the past, criminal and non-criminal acts that they committed in the political context in Timor-Leste between the period of April 25th, 1974 to October 25th, 1999.
The objective referred to remains pertinent to use as the objective of the Process of the Reconciliation of Timorese that Timorese’s State and Government intends to implement in the coming years.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão also gave an idea about the document that the working group is preparing to complete and what are the things that are not yet in this document. “I’ve seen this document is very positive, and I’m grateful for all the efforts that the working group has made and committed to supporting us as staff and as the Head of Government of the 9TH Government on this request for reconciliation,” said PM Xanana.
The meeting was attended by the members of the government, some members of society and some international guests.
