The Vice-Minister for Parliamentary Affairs (VMAP), H.E. Adérito Hugo da Costa, participated in the launch of five priority programs for the Blue Economy, directly officiated by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, on June 5, 2025.
The five priority programs launched are: “New fish species and ‘tara bandu’ for marine areas in Maquili and Biqueli, Green Village – initiative for sustainable development,” Green School – environmental education program, Environmental Brigade – a group to promote environmental protection, and Clean Water – an initiative for the protection and management of natural resources.
Additionally, the program also includes: Biodiversity mural painting, Publication of a book with data on accommodation in Timor-Leste for the year 2025, and the first edition of the Travel Atlas of Timor-Leste, showcasing the tourism potential across Timor-Leste’s territory.
The activity was attended by the Vice Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of Tourism and Environment, H.E. Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, some members of the 9th Government, Atauro Administrative and Local Authorities, and the Executive Director of the Land and Maritime Borders Office, currently the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, Ms. Elizabeth Exposto.
Furthermore, there was massive participation from the Atauro community, students, civil servants, and authorities, who were highly praised by the Blue Economy initiative. The government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development will continue within the scope of World Ocean Week 2025, held at the Atauro Administrative Authority.
These participants actively contributed to sustainable development. The Government of Timor-Leste’s future plans for sustainable development include strategies to strengthen the economy, protect the environment, and improve social conditions for the population.
